I have landed in my second home. I always knew that coming back to Japan would be an easy way to kick off my world tour. Having lived here for two years made it an easy jumping off point. However I never expected to be so comfortable so soon. I was worried that my Japanese would fail me and my friends would spend all their time translating every word for me. Although I haven't been able to have a fully comprehensive discussion, I am quite astonished how quickly the vocabulary would come back. I am picking up way more in conversation than I would have guessed. Especially since I just came off a 17 hour flight schedule this afternoon.
Now I have to give me host family all the credit. We weren't talking about international affairs or discussing the finer points of Japan's economic policies, but we did make it through a couple of discussions about Canada and my family.
There is hope yet for the old brain of mine. Maybe after another week I will be back to my Grade 5 level like when I left 15 years ago.
Ja ne!
